These Pastel Hot Air Balloon Drawings were done by our third graders.
While spending that time I don’t have on the fantastic Pinterest I found some great high school hot air balloon drawings. You can find them here http://artshhs.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html. These beautiful drawings inspired me to create this lesson.
I really love this lesson, it includes so much and the kids all enthusiastically learn and apply their new knowledge. First we look at photographs of hot air balloons in flight. We talk about depth, shading, overlapping, pattern and color. The kids had some great comments!
First chalk outlines.

Then color with pastels.
Last dipping white chalk in yellow paint to add highlights!
The Final Results!
The third graders finished their pastel hot air balloon drawings and are now working on 3D paper mache hot air balloons. I will share them with you once their complete!
Wishing you an Artsy Fartsy Day!
